Coptic Orphans welcomes our new shepherd, His Holiness Pope Tawadros II.
After hearing about the results of the papal election, Pope Tawadros told reporters that His Holiness “will start by organizing the house from within,” according to the Associated Press. His Holiness continued, “Most important is … that the church, as an institution, serves the community.”
Almost immediately after the Liturgy where the selection of Pope Tawadros took place, His Holiness expressed his concern for serving the larger community in Egypt in various ways. In the video here, His Holiness says that the pope is “a father for all Egyptians…”
Coptic Orphans worked with His Holiness when he was managing the affairs of the Diocese of Behaira in Lower Egypt with His Eminence Metropolitan Bakhomious. Together, we developed a technology center to train over 100 youth with valuable skills using 10 new computers.
His Holiness says that Coptic Orphans proved different from other organizations and ministries he worked with:
“The difference about the work of Coptic Orphans is monitoring and follow-up. Without those things, it is impossible to get such outstanding results,” His Holiness says, referring to the organization’s built-in accountability structures and adherence to results-driven projects.
We pray that God will grant many fruitful years to His Holiness, and look forward to continuing to serve together the community in Egypt through our coordinated and organized efforts.
