The United Nations selects Founder and Executive Director Nermien Riad as one of four civil society representatives to speak at the General Assembly high-level meeting on minority rights. More details here.

Coptic Orphans earns its 9th consecutive 4-star rating, the highest awarded by Charity Navigator, and an honor earned by only 3% of the charities they evaluate. The rating comes in recognition of Coptic Orphans’ transparency and accountability. See the press release here.

The United Nations grants Coptic Orphans consultative status with its Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). This is the highest status granted by the UN to non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and allows Coptic Orphans to participate in the work of the United Nations. More details here.

Charity Navigator gives Coptic Orphans a second consecutive 4-star rating (earned by only 21% of the highest rated charities) and ranks Coptic orphans more highly than 90% of other 4-star charities in the international class.

Acacia Federal Savings Bank nominates Coptic Orphans for their “Nice Guys Award”, which recognizes organizations who best model philanthropic values.

Dr. Jennifer Brinkerhoff, Professor of Public Administration and International Affairs at George Washington University, Features Coptic Orphans as a “model” of diaspora-based development efforts in a peer reviewed journal article. 

The United Nations Association of the National Capital Area Awards executive director Nermien Riad the Community Human Rights Award for the work of Coptic Orphans.

Coptic Orphans awarded as a runner up in the NPower Technology Innovation Award sponsored by Accenture.

Coptic Orphans Awarded Honorable Mention in the Washington Post Award for Excellence in Nonprofit Management. With the honorable mention comes a grant for $2,500 to be used for organizational capacity building in our Washington DC office.

The Truman Award for Leadership and Innovation from the Society for International Development – Washington (SID-W) was awarded to Coptic Orphans program manager Phoebe Farag, for her work on the Valuable Girl Project. Bob Berg of the Truman Foundation and Alina Zyskowski, executive director of SID-W presented the award at the “Development Works” conference.

Coptic Orphans was awarded the Spirit of Hope Award from The Children’s Fund for our contribution of to the betterment of children.
