So, you’re a sponsor. You give whole-heartedly to change the lives of the kids, and we couldn’t be more grateful for your love and generosity. But ask yourself, when was the last time I wrote a letter to my child?
Despite the essential monetary contributions our kids receive on a monthly basis, many kids go without ever hearing from their sponsor. We understand that life here is chaotic, and writing to your child in Egypt may not be a top priority in the hustle and bustle. You may also want to but just aren’t sure where to begin or what to say. But please know that writing to your sponsored children is a beautiful part of the sponsorship relationship! Correspondence builds a bond between a sponsor and a child that encourages the child to succeed by showing him or her that someone overseas cares enough about his/her success to invest time and attention in them. That’s why we ask you to please consider writing to your child at least once a year. You’ll never know the real impact your simple message can have on them!
But we know. Trust us.
In fact, we’ve been to the field in Egypt and visited many of the children in their homes and heard first-hand from children who received letters from their sponsors how encouraged and inspired they were. We also heard the sadness in some of the children’s voices—children who live in the same households—who did not receive letters from their sponsor and wondered why their sponsor hadn’t sent them a letter or card when their brother or sister’s sponsor had.
I had the pleasure of visiting my child this past January in her home during my trip to Egypt. I was surprised when she took me into her bedroom and showed me all the letters and cards she had saved that she had received from me over the years. She kept them all inside her dresser along with the pictures I sent her. I was truly humbled to learn that they meant that much to her.
So we’ve decided to offer some help to get you started or back on track! We’ve created a few sample templates for you to use on different occasions throughout the year. Check them out below if you’re not sure where to begin. Find the one you like, and simply copy and paste, making sure to personalize it for your sponsored child. It’s that simple 🙂
From here, you’ll be building a closer connection with your child and improving your bond. Before you know it, writing letters will be a joy! If it’s more convenient for you, you can also send an email to your local Coptic Orphans office, and our staff will forward your letter to our Cairo office for translation if needed.
